The Congressional Black Caucus
Foundation presents the Annual Legislative Conference each year in Washington, DC.

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) was established in 1976 as a nonpartisan, nonprofit, public policy, research and educational institute. With a focus on education, health, economic development, and African globalism, CBCF serves as a provider of leadership and policy education, and a facilitator of partnerships and coalitions among organizations working to advance social and economic conditions for people of color.

The CBCF Annual Legislative Conference is considered to be the premier African American conference on policy issues. For over 35 years, the Conference has provided the opportunity for attendees to acquaint themselves with the Members of the Congressional Black Caucus (there are currently 43), and has allowed people from across the nation to come together to focus on the pressing issues that challenge Black America.

The 2006 conference theme, “Changing Course, Confronting Crises, Continuing the Legacy,” highlights the need to take new approaches in solving problems," said conference chairwoman Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (D-MI). Other participants included Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), Bishop T.D. Jakes, Danny Glover, Iyanla Vanzant, Dick Gregory, Grant Hill, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Blair Underwood, Myrlie Evers Williams, Isaiah Washington and U.S. Senate candidate Kweisi Mfume.

The event served as a gathering place for over 20,000 elected officials, educators, government agencies, researchers, policy practitioners, students and youth, clergy, community leaders, business professionals, corporations, organizations, industry representatives, activists, advocates, and everyday citizens.

AWARE attended the 36th Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., sharing valuable information, advice and resources on vehicle financing with conference attendees.
