DOLLAR WI$E Campaign, U.S. Conference of Mayors

The Mayors' National Dollar Wi$e Campaign is the official financial education outreach effort of The United States Conference of Mayors' Council for the New American City. Dollar Wi$e invites the nation's mayors and cities to join this ongoing campaign and make a commitment to improving the financial literacy of their citizens. The campaign emphasizes basic money management and planning skills around the core components of education, savings, credit, and homeownership, helping Americans work toward and achieve a variety of goals in life such as a college education, owning a vehicle, and providing for their families.

At the national level, Dollar Wi$e works to build partnerships with national organizations devoted to improving financial literacy, including the business community, nonprofit groups, federal agencies, and the members of the Council for the New American City. Dollar Wi$e produces a series of high-quality publications to connect local efforts with each other and with national resources. Dollar Wi$e also supports local efforts through its Capacity Grants Program, which annually awards grants to cities to enhance and expand their local financial-literacy efforts.

At the local level, the 120 (and growing) member cities of the Dollar Wi$e Campaign work with local partners, including government agencies, community-based organizations, charitable groups, financial institutions, and faith-based groups among many others. Mayors are urged to form a community coalition to develop and promote their local campaigns. Together, these cities and their partners organize classes, workshops, seminars, homeownership assistance centers, and ongoing community efforts in financial literacy. Mayors are free to build on existing financial literacy programs in their communities. The Dollar Wi$e Campaign is designed to be flexible and adaptable to each community's individual needs.
