Kelli Eversen, AWARE, shares auto financing information with a delegate to the convention. |
Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. Its members throughout the U.S. and world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities, conducting voter mobilization and monitoring equal opportunity in the public and private sectors.
AWARE participated in NAACP’s 98th Annual Convention, where attendees gathered to renew their commitment to the struggle for equal justice and fair play. The Convention took place in Detroit, MI, July 7-12, 2007.
As an exhibitor in the Commerce & Industry Show, AWARE provided NAACP delegates and thousands of visitors from around the nation with information, tools, and resources to help them better understand and navigate the auto financing system.
Exhibitors at the Show represented a vast range of corporations, government agencies, and private non-profit organizations, all of which are equal employment opportunity employers. Exhibiters displayed a range of products, services and activities at the Show.
Convention highlights included a mock funeral to bury the N-Word, during which both Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm addressed the crowd. The NAACP also held the Leadership 500 Symposium and a diversity job fair to help cultivate the next generation of leaders.
The keynote speaker at the convention was Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff. Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo, and all eight Democratic presidential candidates, addressed the crowd as well, as part of the candidate’s forum.
